NEW: Backpack Containing Clock Causes Bomb Scare at Portland Justice Center

The bomb squad was deployed to the justice center in downtown Portland to investigate bag containing a suspicious device, according to police.

Police responded to a report that a man had left a bag outside of the justice center shortly after 8:15 a.m., and called in the Metropolitan Explosives Disposal Unit after examining the bag. Officers were contacted by a man who told police he left his bag behind a garbage can because he had to go to court and would not be allowed to take his bag inside. The bag contained was some personal belongings, including an analogue clock.

The bag has been returned to the man.

No charges have been filed.

All traffic in the area on SW Madison and 3rd Ave. has been reopened.
