UPDATED: Murdered Ex-Wife Suffered Wounds from Gun, Arrows

Tuesday, November 11, 2014

A woman killed in Southeast Portland Monday by her ex-husband was shot with with a gun and arrows, according to the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office.

The autopsy was conducted after police discovered the body of Nicolette Naomi Elias, 46, on Monday, and conducted a fevered search for her ex-husband and two missing children.

Medical examiners said Tuesday that Nicolette Elias had suffered multiple gunshot wounds and two wounds from arrows.

At approximately 7:20 a.m. Monday, police investigators in Portland entered a home on the 4100 block of Southwest Brugger Street and found Nicolette Elias dead inside. Elias was believed to be the former wife of Ian Martin Elias 47, who was not on the premises, said Sgt. Pete Simpson of the Portland police.

Investigators searched for Nicolette’s husband and the couple’s two girls, aged eight and nine years old.  Witnesses and other information led police to a home on the 6700 block of Northeast 25th Avenue.

At 11:30 a.m., Portland Police Special Emergency Reaction Team raided the home and found the two girls and Ian Elias' new wife, unharmed.

However, as police rushed the home, Ian Elias fled out a door and killed himself in the backyard, police said.

Investigators are working with the Oregon Department of Human Services to place the girls into safe homes as the investigation continues to develop.

The investigation was ongoing.
