"Senator Hatfield was truly one of the most influential and iconic Oregonians of the 20th century, and the positive impact he had on our state will continue for many generations to come," Kerry Tymchuk, executive director of the Oregon Historical Society, said. "The Oregon Historical Society was honored to provide photographs and video from our collection to this documentary."
Hatfield was governor of Oregon from 1959 to 1967 and then served on the U.S. Senate for the next 30 years. He passed away in Portland in 2011.
The film, “The Gentleman of the Senate: Oregon’s Mark Hatfield,” consists of interviews with Hatfield’s former staff and colleagues highlighting his public service career. One of the documentary’s executive producers, Kevin Curry, will hold a question and answer session after the showing.
The film was produced by the Hatfield Project, a nonprofit organization created to document Hatfield’s career and legacy. It first premiered September 7th at Portland State University, and was also shown at Hatfield’s alma mater, Willamette University in Salem.
Tickets to the documentary are $10 dollars and can be purchased through Oregon Historical Society online or at the door. The Oregon Historical Society is located at 1200 Southwest Park Avenue.
