The Portland bomb squad responded to a report of an explosive device thrown from a vehicle, according to the Portland Police Bureau.

East Precinct officers reported they attempted to stop a car on Southeast Flavel Drive, but the silver Honda Civic 2-door sped away from police. Police suspect the driver was Neal Allen Panschow, 43, owner of the car. Panschow is believed to have led police on three pursuits in Clackamas and Multnomah Counties the past few days and has an active warrant.

While fleeing the officers, an apparent explosive device was tossed from the car onto Southeast Flavel Drive at 45th Avenue.

Officers stopped pursuing the car and blocked traffic. Once bomb technicians searched the area, four pipe bombs were found that had been tossed from the car, the police reported. None had detonated and all were recovered by the police.

Southeast Flavel Drive is blocked to all traffic from 45th to 52nd Avenue and some neighborhood evacuations are being conducted by officers at the scene, Simpson said in a media statement.

Police have asked residents to be vigilant and report any suspicious items by calling 911.

Panschow is considered to be armed and dangerous and anyone who sees him should call 911. He is a white male, 5 feet, 10 inches and  170 pounds.
