What We Learned: Washington State at Oregon State

It dates back to last season. Do you realize the Beavers have lost 10 of their last 11 games in the Pac-12? That is extremely difficult to do, the sort of futility reserved for perennial cellar dwellers.
Essentially, the opposite of this proud program.
But they keep score and records for a reason, and right now, OSU is 4-5, losers of four straight. And during this streak, has there been improvement? Maybe from young receiving threats Victor Bolden and Jordan Villamin, who combined for 15 receptions for 209 yards.
But generally, it was more of the same, which suggests this is as good as it gets at the moment.
Meanwhile, it’s obvious...
The defense is shell-shocked
Nearly 500 yards allowed to redshirt freshman Luke Falk making his first start? Have to be better than that, Beavers. Well, you’re going to have to be better than that against Taylor Kelly and Arizona State, which just torched Notre Dame and is locked in on the Pac-12 South title.
Thirty-two points should be enough to win most Saturdays.
Unfortunately, OSU has allowed less than 30 points in just one conference game this - and that was a 29-23 overtime loss to Utah.
It’s even worse the last three weeks - the Beavers are surrendering 40.7 points per game in that stretch.
It’s almost mid-November, when it’s clear you are who you are. This is hardly a trend any more, which means it’s entirely reasonable to suspect...
There won’t be another victory until 2015
Injuries happen, and Washington didn’t look great against UCLA. But it would take something catastrophic at this point for OSU to snare a win in its final three games against, in order, ASU, UW and Oregon.
The Huskies are beatable, but it’s in Seattle. The Civil War is always charged with emotion, but the Ducks are focused on style points with the College Football Playoff committee keeping a watchful eye - UO might be inclined to run it up.
Avert your eyes, Beaver fans. It’s not pretty.
