Portland Chamber Orchestra Presents Northern Lights
Saturday, October 03, 2015
There will be two performances. One will be Friday, October 17th, at Nordia House, and the other performance will be held on Saturday, October 18th, at Lewis & Clark College’s Agnes Flanagan Chapel.
Paying tribute to the 150th anniversary of two celebrated Nordic composers, Carl Nielsen and Jean Sibelius, the program is both a historical and musical exhibition.
The program will feature the NW premier of Jean Sibelius’ incidental music to Maurice Maeterlinck’s play Pelléas and Mélisande. There will also be a semi-staged, edited version of the play.
In addition to the concert, there will be an exhibition called “Northern Lights: The light which can be heard.” During this exhibit, viewers will experience pivotal moments from when the PCO was just beginning.
The PCO was founded by the Finnish composer, Boris Sirpo, and is now under the leadership of Maestro Yaakov Bergman. After years of enriching the community, PCO is now quickly approaching its 70th anniversary.
