Fossil Cartel Celebrates 25 Years on Earth
Thursday, September 04, 2014
Susan Landa, owner of The Fossil Cartel, is crazy about rocks.
Big rocks.
Little rocks.
Rocky rocks.
And back in 1989, when she first opened The Fossil Cartel, a store dedicated to selling rocks, the good folks of Portland thought she was a little crazy for wanting to sell them.
Now she is celebrating 25 years in business.
As Landa sees it, that craziness has led Fossil Cartel down a less-often-than-not rocky path to success.
To express her gratitude for her store’s long-term success, Landa held a celebration in early August at her store in Pioneer Place. The event was open to the public and include guessing game contests and prizes.
“I feel so fortunate to still be in business after so many years,” says Landa. “I love being able to connect people locally and from all over the world to Earth’s divine treasures.”
The Fossil Cartel is a locally owned retail store showcasing jewelry, crystals, minerals, fossils and meteorites from all over the world. And where else can you pick up a rock from outer space, a dinosaur tooth, or stunning earrings – or take home a piece of Oregon?
Not only do they last longer than a Voodoo Doughnut or Deschutes Brewery growler, they are a neat memento of your time spent in Oregon.
The Fossil Cartel is located on the Concourse Level in Pioneer Place, 340 SW Morrison, Portland, OR 97204. Hours are 10 a.m. - 8 p.m. Mon. - Sat. and 11 am. - 6 p.m. Sun.
