VIDEO: Mayor Wheeler Issues Statement Ahead of August 17 Protests
Thursday, August 08, 2019
The protest is against anti-fascists, but is expected to draw far-right groups like the Proud Boys, Oathkeepers and Three Percenters.
The protests could become violent.
“To those people planning to come and inflict violence in our city, we don’t want you here. This is why I have empowered and directed the Portland Police Bureau to use whatever means necessary and to amass whatever resources necessary to ensure public safety and to uphold the law," said Wheeler in the video.
According to officials, no group has requested a permit for Waterfront Park for August 17.
