US DOJ Says Amanda Marshall’s Lawyer Gave False Information to The Oregonian
Monday, March 16, 2015
Friday, The Oregonian reported Marshall was being looked at by the Office of the Inspector General(OIG) for a possibly inappropriate relationship with an employee, Assistant U.S. Attorney Scott Kerin.
Marshall's lawyer, Charese Rohny, reportedly told the Oregonian she had been informed by the OIG that investigators were looking into Kerin.
"The statements in the article attributed to a lawyer for U.S. Attorney Marshall do not accurately represent the position of the OIG," the Department of Justice Office of the Inspector General (OIG) wrote in a statement Monday specifically addressing the Oregonian's March 13 report.
The office would not comment further, citing policy regarding ongoing invesstigations.
The statement would indicate that OIG investigators are not looking into Kerin, but rather, are investigating Marshall alone. Previously, it was unclear who was being investigated.
Rohny told the Oregonian's Jeff Manning March 13 that Kerin, not Marshall, was the focus of the investigation:
"I was told by the OIG they're investigating Scott," Rohny said. "That's what initiated the investigation."
GoLocalPDX calls to Rohny were not returned.
Marshall is on leave, her spokeswoman Gerri Badden said Saturday, while Acting U.S. Attorney for Oregon Billy Williams serves in her stead.
The U.S. Attorney's office is currently in the midst of a sweeping investigation into former Governor John Kitzhaber and his fiancee, Cylvia Hayes, regarding her possible use of public office for personal gain.
