3 Former Trail Blazers Sign Elsewhere

Saturday, July 04, 2015

The Portland Trail Blazers are going to look drastically different than they did last season.

As of now Arron Afflalo has signed a 4-year $16 million dollar deal with the New York Knicks, Robin Lopez has also signed with the Knicks for 4-years and $54 million dollars while Wesley Matthews has agreed to a 4-year deal with the Dallas Mavericks worth $64 million.

4 out of the 5 guys who started for the Blazers last season are now on different teams. Nobody quite knows what Portland GM, Neil Olshey, is up to but it’s apparent that he has made it a priority to drastically alter the roster. The same roster that has won over 50 games each of the past 2 seasons.

What’s the most surprising is the fact the Blazers didn’t re-sign Matthews. For the past 5 season Matthews has been the team’s best perimeter defender. He has also developed an uncanny ability to knock down timely threes. It was reported that he was setting his price at $15 million per season, which could've been the reason the Blazers didn’t re-sign him.

Although this would be an easy time for Rip City to begin panicking let’s see how the rest of the summer plays out first. Olshey hasn’t given us any reason to doubt him (yet).
