Portland Fashion Week Kicks off Early With ‘Fashion and Music on the Square’
Saturday, September 06, 2014
The new event runs Sept. 5-7 at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Fashion and Music on the Square is a free, all-ages, three-day musical event right in Portland’s living room.
“Our hope is to bring awareness to Portland’s fashion community, portland retailers, musicians and artist community," said executive director Jessica Kane. "That’s why it is free.”
The music festival features 18 local musicians and bands with various musical styles, including 15-year-old acoustic pop singer and guitarist Bailee Jordyn, sibling-led indie rock band Foreign Talks, playing today, and soul pop singer Sarah Billings on the final day, Sunday.
Each musical act playing at the square is trying to win a spot to open Portland Fashion Week, and audience members can vote for their favorite act using a secret voting code found at the event.
Portland Fashion Week takes place Sept. 29-Oct. 2, also at Pioneer Courthouse Square.
Shop 'til you drop downtown at over 30 pop-up shops that are also occupying the square for the event.
Find Maple Xo, a local jewelry company that makes jewelry out of recycled skateboards.
Also check out Simply Posh, a high-end fashion boutique store that is the offspring of New To You, “the largest consignment store in the state” says Marketing Manager Teresa Field.
If you are looking for vintage finds, make a stop at Vintalier, a shop that sells vintage and preowned clothing.
After shopping, grab some grub, including handmade ice cream at Fifty Licks and crinkle-cut vegetarian poutine fries from Dogs and Fries.
