Uber Spends $50,000 Lobbying Portland & Local Taxis Only Report $7,500

According the the reports, Uber spent in excess of $50,000 talking to city officials and their staffs. Mark Winer and Caitlin O’Neill, Ubers’ lobbyist scored dozens of meetings with Steve Novick, Bryan Holiday, and Josh Alpert, to name but a few.
Moreover, according to reports Uber held 34 meetings, had 56 telephone calls, and exchanged 19 emails — a total of 109 communications.
In contrast, the taxi groups - Transportation Fairness Alliance and Broadway Cab held just a couple dozens of meetings and only reported $7,500 in lobbying fees.
The Transportation Fairness Alliance, who leverages the tagline, “Portland Deserves Transportation Options that are Safe and Fair,” reported 16 calls, emails and meetings in their lobbying report. Their lobbyist include Stephen Kafoury and Raye Miles and their combined calls, emails and meeting, which translated to less than 15% of Uber’s activities.
