Another Day, Another Endorsement in PDX Mayor’s Race

Thursday, March 10, 2016

Jules Bailey

Another day and another endorsement in the battle to be the next Mayor of Portland.

This time the endorsement goes to Jules Bailey. The United Food and Commercial Workers 555 announced today its endorsement of Jules Bailey for Mayor.  Earlier this week Nick Fish endorsed Ted Wheeler in his effort to succeed Charlie Hales and just before that artPAC pledged their support to Bailey.

"Jules Bailey has been a champion for workers throughout his career. We believe Jules is the candidate in the Portland Mayor’s race who best understands our issues. Jules’s leadership and experience are exactly what Portland needs to move forward to improve the economy and create jobs in our city,” said Dan Clay, President of UFCW 555.

“This endorsement means so much because I’m the product of a union household,” said Jules Bailey. “I got into this race because I believe we need a mayor that can speak to the kinds of things that working and middle-class families need in this city. I’ll be a mayor that can understand where these families are coming from because I am one of them. I’m grateful to UFCW 555 for their endorsement.”

According to the Bailey campaign, the endorsement from UFCW 555 “is key for Bailey’s grassroots campaign because local union members turnout to canvass and make phone calls to voters. Bailey has limited contributions to $250 per individual or organization and has raised funds from over 550 people since entering the race last month.”
