15-Year-Old Boy Arrested After Assaulting Portland Police Officer

Friday, August 26, 2016

A 15-year-old kid assaulted a Portland Police officer by slamming a car door into his face on Thursday night when police arrived in the area of the 1300 block of Southeast 135th avenue in response to the report of a car prowler.

The suspect was eventually taken into custody and was at the Donald E. Long Juvenile Detention Home on charges of assaulting a public safety officer, resist arrest, menacing, Interfering with a Peace Officer, disorderly conduct in the second degree, and unlawful entry into a car.

The Incident

On Thursday August 25, 2016, at 10:49 p.m., East Precinct officers responded to the report of a car prowler in the 1300 block of Southeast 135th Avenue. As officers were responding to the scene they received information that the suspect had been confronted by a homeowner who was armed with a shotgun. The suspect advanced on the homeowner then ran away but was confronted by other neighbors who ordered the suspect onto the ground.

The first officer arrived and was awaiting cover when the suspect charged at the officer, intentionally shoved the open police car door into the officer's face, which caused facial injuries. The suspect proceeded to walk away as the injured officer followed the suspect at a safe distance, requesting immediate cover.

The suspect turned around and advanced towards the officer again which resulted in the officer deploying a Taser multiple times to keep the suspect from attacking. Several cover officers arrived and were able to take the suspect into custody.

Medical personnel responded to treat both the officer and the 15-year-old male suspect, who exhibited signs of being under the influence of intoxicants. The injured officer was transported to a Portland hospital by another officer where the officer was treated and released.
